With real estate investors dropping out, developers are increasingly turning to housing associations to get new construction projects off the ground. They are asking corporations to buy medium-priced free-sector housing so that construction projects can go ahead despite increased interest rates and expensive material costs. In Breda and The Hague, among others, corporations have already done so, according to a roundup by the FD.

Housing corporation Alwel bought 108 homes in Cosunpark Breda from Reales late last year. The 108 homes are divided into 66 mid-rent flats 42 social rental flats. Due to a change in government regulations, the smaller free-sector homes are rented out as social rented homes, which allowed additional (free-sector) owner-occupied flats to be added in the remaining new-build blocks.
Cosun 2 is currently on sale and it is expected to bring Cosun 3 to the market by the middle of this year.
